Tranquil, Hold the Opiates: peaceful and contemplative seasonal influences achieved with only paint.
I like big murals that fill an entire room but painting this small antique Chinese bed canopy fulfilled my desire to create a complete environment. In fact I was able to make four distinct environments for this little room within a room that was missing its original top. The client was a collector and amateur scholar of Chinese art so my work had to be right. I chose imagery from traditional Chinese paintings representing the four seasons: flowering plum for winter, lotus for spring, bamboo for summer, and pine for fall. The four paintings I created were cut up and made into four panels to fit the canopy which is changed to match each season.
Materials: acrylic on canvas.
