The Magic Hour (in paint): in the last hour of sunlight when the light is warm and diffuse.
The Planter's Inn is a luxury boutique hotel in the Relais and Châteux group. The hotel's fine dining restaurant, the Peninsula Grill, has a couple of my paintings and for the bar I created a signature mural. My painting depicts a plantation owner in his rice field with a couple of workers at dusk. I based the composition on a blurry photograph I found at The Charleston Library Society, The South's oldest cultural institution, founded in 1748. That small blurry black and white photo was just enough information for me to create a richly textured mural with a warm glow perfect to sip cocktails by.
Materials: acrylic and powdered pigments on canvas.
